Zombie squats, as demonstrated by Scott here, are a great exercise for teaching correct bar placement for barbell front squats.
Before jumping straight into front squats its important that you learn to rest the bar in the right position, rather than just holding on for dear life with your arms while front squatting. So although this exercise definitely looks ridiculous to the untrained eye, nothing beats it for teaching correct bar placement.
The progression we usually use for clients getting onto full front squat is as follows.
Heels elevated bodyweight squats
Kettlebell goblet squats
Zombie squats
